Byron
came to us unplanned as I fell in love with him the first time I saw him.
When Byron looked straight into my eyes it was as if he could look
right into your soul. I was hooked. Byron became Barrie's first working trials dog.
He was not a natural trials dog but he was an excellent tracking
dog. He went through the stakes quite quickly and gained his TDex
within 17 months of competing, at only his second attempt in TD
ticket. There followed a 7 months lay off of working trials due to
the foot and mouth outbreak, but when trials returned, Byron gained a
Reserve CC at the Scottish WTS in Lauder.
Shortly after, Byron
had a bout of rhinitis and completely lost his sense of smell for
about a year. He did recover and went on to more qualifiers but never
gained the same level of confidence he had had before, so was
ultimately retired.
He then continued to help Barrie in the
trials training of his younger bitch, Kay and recently started to
assist in the same way with our new blue boy, Cesan. Byron had rock
solid stays and has helped in training both these two, along with
other dogs that needed a steady dog to help.
Byron has always
been admired by all who have met him and he relished meeting his "fans"
whenever he could. Our other dogs have always looked up to him and
never had a cross word with him. He has always been the "quiet" leader.
He has always been ultra fit, with an amazing zest for life, a bit of a
clown and enjoyed life to the full. He was always careful with our
Yorkies, and especially my last remaining Yorkie, all 4 lb of her!
He was taken far too young from us given his his level of fitness and his "pawmarks" will be a big gap to fill.
